This is my Artist Statement that accompanies my show tonight. Pretty big night... really looking forward to it..
I was born a storyteller.
As a child I was fascinated with the elements of fantasy; the idea that worlds might exist outside of what we knew intrigued me. However, growing up in a very strict and conservative household, I did not have access to the many books and other media that told the stories of these past and future worlds. With these limitations, I did the only thing a child with an overactive imagination could do: I created my own world.
Although most of my creative expression was rooted in writing since my childhood, I decided to explore the areas of art and graphic design as a way to bring my words to life visually, through both graphic imagery and typography. This journey has been indescribably rewarding.
To me, art is about the process of exploration. It is almost a method of thinking or reasoning, a way of weighing the possibilities, experimenting, and ultimately defining my views of myself and the world around me. Art is about trying an infinite number of solutions with the knowledge that there is no such thing as the perfect solution. Some solutions are more comfortable than others, but even those are constantly changing, and sometimes working through the uncomfortable solutions is the best way to discover the elements that truly make a piece of work expressive and definitive.
Though I began studying art for the sake of personal expression, I have also learned much about structure, hierarchy, and other principles I can use to convey my ideas to my audience in the most effective manner possible. I will make use of all of these skills to share my stories with people both young and old.

Later on I'll actually post some pictures of the book and maybe some photos from the show in scraps. Funny how despite my "returning" to DevArt I haven't actually posted any "art" in two years.
I may post a story in the meantime though. We'll see.

By the way, good luck with the new account.

I used to be with it. But then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems scary and wierd. It'll happen to you." - Abe Simpson
